Seafood increase risk of diabetes

Eat white fish regularly can provide protection against diabetes type 2, but eating shellfish might have the opposite effect, according to a study that evaluated a risk of about 25 percent.

They found that men and women who consumed amounts of seafood mainly shrimps, crabs and mussels, had about 36 percent higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

But "can not be the seafood which increased the risk of diabetes," said Dr. Nita Forouhi, Addenbrooke's Hospital, University of Cambridge.

Rather, cooking and processing methods used in the UK, would be responsible, as for example when frying oils or butter and mayonnaise served with seafood sauces, may increase the intake of cholesterol , which in turn may increase the risk of diabetes.

Forouhi and colleagues assessed weekly intake of seafood besides fish white fish like cod, haddock, sole and halibut, or fatty fish such as mackerel, salmon, tuna and salmon, about 12,183 men and 9801 women who participated in the study aged between 40 and 79 years old, who until now and had no history of diabetes.

During an average of 10 years, 725 of these men and women developed type 2 diabetes.

Both the lower risk associated with white fish and fish oil and the increased risk associated with seafood intake remained when the researchers evaluated a number of risk factors for diabetes including physical activity, obesity, alcohol consumption and consumption fruit and vegetables.

Let food be your medicine

A large part of Chinese culture revolves around food, which is shown, with their daily greeting, which for the West would be "good day" for this is, "Have you eaten today."

Chinese cooking practices were elevated to an art form long before other civilizations, even though some were just beginning to use fire, and the food for the Chinese represent both subsistence, as a celebration of life.

Every bite and every sip is good for the body, which must maintain a delicate balance, which is called "yin-yang", the eternal complementary opposites.

When the body has too much heat they relate this condition with a diet that includes too much red meat or fried food, so to counteract or balance the condition should be sought cold foods and to bring balance to the neutralization or organic .

When the Chi (vital energy) is weak, you should drink this tonic to increase energy and when the chi is too strong, gentle infusions are selected to calm him down quickly.

The yin and yang is a philosophy which affects the whole of China and to teach life balance for all orders of life, also called the "Middle Way", a concept preached by Zen Buddhism and in its non zen.

This concept therefore applies to all aspects of life, but nowhere more evident than in everyday Chinese cuisine.

For the average family in China, all meals consumed in a meat dish, fish dish, a vegetable dish and a soup is the most common combination.

And depending on the season, the soup will be a slight mix of summer vegetables with a few slivers of meat to sweeten hot or heavy soup against the chills of winter.
